Example: “And he went and did not eat and returned”. “And he went (וַיֵּלֶךְ = ו B) and did not eat (וְלֹא אָכַל = ו + negation A) and returned (וַיָּשָׁב = ו B)”. Two particular forms of the verb הָיָה “to become, come to pass” are an integral part of the scheme: וְהָיָה “and it shall come to pass, happen” (ו A) וַיְהִי “and it happened, came to pass” (ו B) This latter form is derived from an apocopated imperfect, thus: יִהְיֶה > וַיִּהְי > וַיְהִי For היה as a III-He/lamed-he verb, see 3dd above.
